Lovan 20 and weight gain

My mother is on Lovan 20 and she is putting on weight, she is complaining of always being hungry is this a side affect to the medication. Is this a common side effect of this medication and what other drugs might help out in this situation?
I would like to help her find other drugs in this class that do not cause weight gain and/or have lessor side effects than Lovan 20.
