Side effects of Errin birth control pills?

By Shellie Berger from New Bern, NC on November 27, 2005
Category: Errin (Oral)

I have been taking Errin birth control pills for several months. During this time I have noticed a considerable weight gain. I also feel like I can't get enough sleep. I am constantly tired to the point that it effects my daily activities. I would like to know if these are normal side effects of this medication and if there is anything that I can do to reduce them.

Weight Gain to Errin Birth Control Pills

I have been on Errin birth control for almost a month now, and I have already gained 6 pounds. This is with me only eating two well-balanced meals a day. I was thinner and a size smaller before I started the birth control. I am often so tired, that I cannot sleep. I am concened because I have gained so much weight in such a short period of time. My stomach actually is so swollen that I look like I am a few months pregnant, or as if I have just had a baby.

Errin Side Effects

I have been taking Errin for 3 weeks now. I have not experienced any side effects as of yet. However, I have been wanting to gain some weight due to the fact that I am too thin in my opinion. If this pill does in fact cause weight gain, I really look forward to seeing it happen. Overall, I am very satisfied with taking Errin.

Missed period and spotting

I started using Errin on the day of my first period following the birth of a child... I expirienced a shorted period than usual that lasted about 4 days instead of my usual 7 day period... I expirienced spotting about 2 weeks later. Now I am on my second pack... I have not gotten a period yet that was supposed to start during the 4th row of pills, I've taken 22 pregnancy tests and they are negative. My usual period is like clockwork but I am confused as to if my missed period is due to just having a baby9 weeks ago and my body adjusting, the amount of stress I'm under or the reaction of the pill.

ERRIN after giving birth

I have been on Errin for three months following the birth of my son. I am overall satisfied. I just hate that you have to take it sooooo religiously (same time everyday) Its annoying because I am a new mom, a graduate student, and newlywed. And I really have a hard time remembering to take my pill. I hope I am not pregnant again this year. But I wouldnt be surprised if I were. I just hope that It happens atleast after my son is 9 months old.

I have been on Errin BCP for 6 months. I did not get my period for the first 3 months. Now I get it the first or second day starting the 3rd week of pills..like clockwork. I did think I was pregnant the first few months because I felt pregnant and I was spotting. Everything has seemed to even out. I noticed that your comment was almost 2 months ago...hope this helped?? If not..sorry it is late!

Period lasting almost all month long f/m Errin!

My side effects from taking Errin are horrible!  My period will not regulate.  I will be on my period for about a week (5-7 days), and then it will stop for a couple of days.  I am surprised just a couple of days later to see that I am having my period again.  Sometimes it is heavy, and sometimes it is just spotting.  I cannot find anybody who has had these same side effects.  Most everybody is saying the opposite.

Constant bleeding on Errin birth control pills?

I have been taking Errin pill for two months now. During that time I have experienced the horrible side effect of constant bleeding. In the first month I had light and very heavy bleeding all expect 9 days. Now during the second month I have experience the same expect only 5 days without bleeding. My doctor says that it takes about three months for my hormones to regulate. I also have experienced tiredness, headaches and cramps.

Bad Side effects

This is my first month taking this pill and within the first week I had some bad side effects. I suffer from migraines and was told it would not make them worse. I had blood shot red eyes that were painful to move. I was out of class for a few days because the pain was so bad. I also some spotting and really bad acne. Needless to say I have to stop this pill at the end of the month and give up on birth controll all together.

errin problems

i started errin earlier this year. i have been on a tricycle pill for around 16 years, and just switched. i had my period normally after the first month. i also had problems with my eyes. i could not wear my contacts for around the first month after starting errin. i have also noticed more than normal hair loss. i have not noticed any weight gain. now i am ok to wear my contacts. i did not have a period the second month, but i had all the symptoms of my period, and i was extra moody. all this passed, and now at 67 days after my period i have cramps and spotting, or is this my period? i really don't think i am pregnant as i don't have any signs of pregnancy, although the thought is in the back of my mind. i am going to take a pregnancy test sometime soon just to be sure. i am not liking this pill so far. it seems everyone in these forums are having the same worries all the time ie. am i pregnant?? if things don't start regulating in the next few months, i am done with this pill. it isn't worth all the worring.

Late on Errin

I started taking Errin two months ago. The first month I was normal..getting my period on the 20th. The second month..i expected it on the 20th, like I used to before I started birth control but now I am so far 4 days late going on 5. I am really nervous that I am pregnant. I am planning on getting a Pregnancy test this weekend. Is this normal. I saw someone else had a very similar situation to mine. How long does it take for the pill to regulate out again?

In responce to Pregnancy Test fears

My doctor says that the Errin doesn't effect pregnancy tests- and the ones you take at home are pretty much as effective as the ones you can take at the clinic. But Errin will effect when your period comes so if you need clock work then it's not the birth control for you.
When I tried to go off of Errin I had to switch to the depo shot because going cold turkey caused me to bleed uncontrollably. But I never had problems when I was actually on it that I could tell (tho I couldn't properly test since I couldn't get off of it.)

Side Effects.

I've been on Errin for about a month now and I've been experiencing a lot of neausea. I'm so tired all the time and I can never seem to fall asleep, I've been having really bad mood swings. I have a history of chronic headaches and they've been getting more severe. I feel like I'm gaining weight, but I'm not sure. My chest size has increased greatly. My doctor said that I probably won't be getting my period but I did. I am on this particular pill because I have really bad cramps but it didn't help that at all. I can't take birth control that contains estrogen because of my migraines.

oooh Errin.

I found out in June that I had stage 3 dysplasia- so pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. With more tests I found out I also have factor 5- a blood clotting disorder. With Factor 5 its like a sin to be on estrogen so my hematologist said to change to progesterone form, my ob-gyn prescribed Errin. I started Errin and then had a LEEP to remove all the bad cells. I think it was a combination of the LEEP and Errin that i bled for 27 days straight. Its been 6.5 weeks since my last period- or the since the last week of me bleeding. Took 2 pregnancy tests, both said negative, I am sick throughout the day and have gained about 7 pounds since I have been on it. Stressed! But from what everyone else is saying I guess this is pretty normal for this pill to throw you out of wack.

Re: Side effects of Errin birth control pills?

I have been on Errin since the birth of my son five months ago and I have had only 2 periods since then, the last 2 months I have not had any. The doc says this is normal but I don't feel normal! I feel bloated and continuously paranoid that Im preggers again!! Plus I have been nursing(whole reason for choosing Errin) and I have not lost ANY weight, instead I am gaining weight. I finally decided to take my self off birthcontrol all together.

weight gain and tired

i have been on these pills for about 9 months due to endometriosis. i have gained 10 lbs and am always tired! i feel drained all the time. i eat very healthy and exercise so the weight gain has been a huge deal to me! the only good thing about this medication is that it helps with the severe monthly pain due to the endometriosis. i feel horrible on this medication, but with no insurance it is cheaper than surgery. if anyone knows how i can lose weight and still continue the medicine, i would appreciate any advice!

Weight Gain and Feeling Tired

I have been on Errin for about a year and a half. I have noticed myself a couple months after taking it that I have been very tired, and it seems like it gets worse overtime. I'm always tired and don't seem as perky as I used to be. And I have gained about 15-20lbs since I have been on this pill. I'm a very petite person and I'm only 20. I don't think I should be gaining THAT much weight at my age. The reason why I am on this pill is because I had very severe migraines all the time, which the pill has helped quite considerably. Now I very rarely get them. Also because my cramps were so bad that they would make me curl up in a ball for about two days and made me sick. I get about a three day period about every two months or so. Very rarely do my cramps hurt that bad, if I do experience pain, I am still up and about compared to before the pill. I wish I could help in telling you how to loose this weight while on this pill. I am fighting the same problem, I've been working out, like running, biking and small lifting. Even eating less and eating more healthy. Nothing seems to be helping. I have an appt soon, and I feel like asking if the non generic brand will still do this or if there is another POP pill out there that will not cause all this weight and still keep me cramp free and small periods. I wish you luck in finding out how to loose this weight, let me know if you find a way.

Same problem with prolonged period on Errin

Hello,

I am having the same problem with a prolonged period while on errin, I have been on this pill for almost 3 months and within the past month this on and off period thing is driving me crazy. The main reason this is a cause for concern for me is because I have had problems with being anemic in the past. I am just thinking about going back to the BC I was on before, unfortunately that one had a negative impact on my blood pressure :(. Did you find out if this is normal?

Taking Errin for 8 months and basically having a period ever few days :(

I'm 25, have 1 daughter who is 6 and I've had horrible problems that started with puberty. After years of doctors telling me it was in my head I finally found one that takes me seriously. It was just last year. Anyway, after telling her about both of my grandmothers having endometriosis and having complete hysterectomies around 30, also about my aunt that has endo and she had a complete hysterectomy at 36, combined with my symptoms and exam (my uterus doesn't "move freely" she said) she believes I probably have endo too but wanted to try bc pills fisrt. Well, first I was on LoSeasonique and OMG!! I bleed constantly for 3 months and became anemic so she switched me to Errin. Other than the serious acne that it caused everything was fine. I even began to have a period every month like clockwork which NEVER happened before. But in April, it started becoming very irregular. Like, on for 7 days then stop for 1 and start back up for 3. I have serious cramps and nausea all the time again too. In between the spotting and bleeding my husband and I are having sex, so I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I'm RH neg also so I'm totally confused. I try and tell myself that this is a normal side effect but let's face it, it's no fun to ruin every pair of underwear you own and the on again/off again bleeding doesn't exactly do wonders for a sex life.....HA! Hope this helps someone to at least know they aren't alone :)

Help Please!!!!!!

I've been taking Errin for ~3 years with a problem only once before this. I stopped getting my period when I started taking it and have been doing really well. I previously had horrible cramping, heavy mensuration, and usually lasting 7-10 days. Anyways at one point after taking some heavy antibiotics I my period started and would not stop. At some point I was told to stop the pill for a few days and then restart it (can't remember at exactly what point). I recently took some really really strong antibiotics that F'ed my life up- gave me thrush twice, UTI, yeast infection, and caused me to have a period. I hoped it would have corrected itself on it's own but didn't. Again for a second month in a row I'm having a period. I positive I'm not pregnant. My doctor, who is a different one then who treated me during my last issue, thinks this is totally normal. Help please I'm desperate to stop my hell again.

side effects of errin birth control

I have been taking Errin for 5 months, missed my period the first 2 months, then started getting spotting in between my period, then got my period every 2 weeks. I just finished a longer and heavier period (7 days) this Sunday and now 4 days later ANOTHER period and the cramps and back ache are awful!!
I take the pill every night at 10:15pm (give or take 15-30 mins max)
I have also gained about 7 lbs.
The only up side to this pill is I stopped getting migraines, I was on the regular combo pill and got monthly migraine 3 days before my period like clock work.
I was unable to have an iud fitted, help, I am out of birth control options!

Daughter having same side effect of almost constant periods

My daughter (almost 19) has been on Errin for over 2 years. She started it for irregular periods. Because of a clotting factor in her blood (and my history of an unexplained blood clot at age 17,) the doctor would only prescribe Errin. At first, she got no period for several months. Then, she started getting her period with some spotting. Now, for the past few months, she is getting her period as many describe above (lasts 5-7 days, stops then starts again a few days later.) The bleeding is mild sometimes and heavy other times. Her doctor said that normally, he would just change her pill but because of the blood clotting factor, he cannot. So, he is doing a sonohystogram in a week. I'm nervous! Anyone had an experience like this?

Re: Side effects of Errin birth control pills?

when i first started taking errin i was getting 3 periods a month, a total pain in the butt! my doctor said it can take up to six weeks to even out and in many cases you completely stop having a period while taking it. I'm at the end of my six weeks so im waiting to see what happens...hope this helps a little.

Bleeding

I have been on Errin for six months now and things seemed to be going well. Now I have noticed that I bleed almost 100% of the time during intercourse. The bleeding does not last long in fact once I shower it goes away. This is just so irritating...am I the only one having this problem???

3 periods in one month

I just gave birth 3 months ago and I am now taking Errin because I am breastfeeding. I'm on my first pack; last week of b/c, and I've had my period 3x within 1 month. It's not spotting, but more like a regular period with mild cramping. Sometimes there are even clots. I do find myself nauseas about once a day, and I've been getting more sleepier than usual. I take the pill on time, but I do admit I was within the 3 hr "safe" window once. What should I do, continue for another month or bring it to Doc's attention?

My side effects

I started taking Errin back in 2009 and had a heavy period for a good 3 weeks. I called my doctor who put me on 7 days of estrogen. She took me off of birth control with estrogen because my sister had breast cancer at such a young age...29. It's been over 3 years now, I've gained a tremendous amount of weight, when I got on it, I think I weighed around 120-125, I'm now up to 140-145. I have little to no energy and can't put forth as much of an effort as I would like to really exercise because I am exhausted. Sleep is a premium to me because I swear I haven't slept well in 3 years. My period hasn't been normal since I started this pill. I went from a heavy period when I started it, to not getting one at all for about a year, and it never comes at the same time. It's actually a relief to see that others are having the same issues as me. I am probably getting off of it within the next month to start a family of my own, I just got my last refill last night.

Factor 5 Leidon vs. Errin?

Hello,
My name is Jenna a nineteen year old female diagnosed with factor 5 liedon which is a hereditary blood clotting disorder, raynauds phenomenon which is a blood circulation disorder caused by stress and cold weather and Dysmenorrhea which is heavy painful menstrual cycles. i am of average height and very petite, anyhow i have seen my fair share of doctors for my dysmenorrhea and factor 5 combo and all of which have conflicting statements on what to take for it. i recently was prescribed Errin which as we all know is a oral contraceptive, i have yet to take the drug bc i wanted to do my own investigation into the drug which brought me here which has me second guessing the doctors decision about prescribing this drug, unlike most if not all the post i have read you are on this so you either wont get pregnant or will have a lessor chance of doing so, my decision to go on errin was due to my dysmenorrhea-heavy painful menstruation, and i have come to realize this drug may not be for me after reading these side-effects others have been under-going. can anyone say they have not received any pain on this contraceptive? If you have can u further explain to me what it was so you can help me make the right decision?.

Over a month off of Errin

My last day on Errin was January 6th. At that point I was at the tail end of my period. I got my period again at the end of January, on the 29th. I just got it again on the 12th. I sent my doctor a message asking if this was something I should be concerned about. She said no, this is normal because of me being off the pill and it might take a while for my cycle to be normal. I don't even know what a normal cycle is anymore, haven't had one since I started taking this pill. It's absolutely ridiculous that I went 2 weeks and then got my period again. I wasn't due again until February 25th. Which is now in a week and a half! How am I supposed to be able to calculate anything with such a screwed up cycle?!
