Dear Madam/Sirs,

I am a 39 year old woman and have been suffering from hypothyroid since more than 2 years ago (29 months), at first time 29 months ago my doctor advised me with propylthiouracil 6 tablets three times a day for one week, after that he reduced the dosage of my medicin to 2 tablets per day after 3 months from the first vist. after that time because i felt much better with my health i got to be not very serious about taking my tablets properly (my big mistake). so then i stoped them 2 years ago, since 2 years ago untill 3 weeks ago i didnt take my tablets properly, it means for example i stoped taking propylthiouracil for 2/3 months and again when i felt some symptoms of my disease i started taking them for 1/2 months and again stoped even some times for 4/5 and again start taking for a limit time. ( may be i can say the main reason was because i was not able to access my doctor as i had let my country 2 years ago and i didnt believe others ).

3 weeks ago i had a blood test the resuls was as below details:

Free T3 18.91 pg/mL

Free T4 4.05 ng/d1

T.S.H 0.00 mIU/mL

I went to a doctor on 1st Sep 2006 and she asaked me to take propylthiouracil 6 tablets per day for 2 weeks after 2 weeks i had the blood test again as below:

Free T3 6.1 pg/mL

Free T4 2.51 ng/d1

T.S.H 0.008 mIU/mL

the doctor said taking 5 tablets for 2 weeks again ( 2 morning, 1 noon, 2 night ) and she also siad my body is not responding to the medicin so i have to have operation or have radioactive.

now i am so concern that what is happening to me? i know it was my mistake that i didnt take my medicin properly, but after long time, means more than 2 years it is only the third week that i am taking propylthiouracil proprly, then how she says my body is not respoding to the medicin? as you see there is some changes in the test resul.

please tell me is it possiple to treat my hypothyroid by this medicin or as this doctor said i have to treat it with operation and etc...? and also please tell me if she advised me with the right dosage of this medicin propylthiouracil? i would be very thankfull if you tell me what is the safest way for me to control my diseas.

I am looking forward to hearing form you soon.

Thanks & Best Regards

Fatemeh
