Loestrin 21 1.5/30

I am currently taking Loestin 21 1.5/30 for about 4 months now. I have extremely long and painful periods, so my doctor suggested that I take the pills back to back, and do not skip a week to have a period. However, I have begun to bleed a little every single day, and I was wondering if I should stop taking the pills and wait a week before I begin again. If I do that, will I need to use alternate method of contraceptive, and if so, then for how long?
