Classification: Chelating agent Action/Kinetics: A chelating agent that binds copper, thus facilitating its excretion from the body. Uses: Wilson's disease (a metabolic defect resulting in excess copper accumulation) who are intolerant of penicillamine. Contraindications: Use in cystinuria, rheumatoid arthritis, biliary cirrhosis. Special Concerns: Use with caution during lactation. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been determined although the drug has been used in children as young as 6 years of age. Side Effects: Iron deficiency anemia, SLE. How Supplied: Capsule: 250 mg
