I have pinworms, they are not going away. How long doe the med. take to work? I have had pinworms for two weeks and I'm getting very tired of cleaning my sheets and mopping my floors. i have taken two doses of mebendazole and they do not seem to be going away. Classification: Anthelmintic

Action/Kinetics: Anthelmintic effect occurs by blocking the glucose uptake of the organisms, thereby reducing their energy until death results. It also inhibits the formation of microtubules in the helminth. Peak plasma levels: 2-4 hr. Poorly absorbed from the GI tract. Excreted in feces as unchanged drug or metabolites.

Uses: Whipworm, pinworm, roundworm, common and American hookworm infections; in single or mixed infections. Mebendazole is not effective for hydatid disease.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to mebendazole.

Special Concerns: Use with caution in children under 2 years of age and during lactation.

Side Effects: GI: Transient abdominal pain and diarrhea. Hematologic: Reversible neutropenia. Miscellaneous: Fever.

Drug Interactions: Carbamazepine and hydantoin may effect due to plasma levels of mebendazole.

How Supplied: Chew Tablet: 100 mg

Dosage
?Tablets, Chewable Whipworm, roundworm, and hookworm.
Adults and children: 1 tablet morning and evening on 3 consecutive days.
Pinworms.
1 tablet, one time. All treatments can be repeated after 3 weeks if the client is not cured.
