Classification: Beta-adrenergic blocking agent

Action/Kinetics: Both beta-1- and beta-2-adrenergic receptor agonist. May act by decreasing the formation of aqueous humor. Onset: <60 min. Peak effect: 2-6 hr. Duration: 24 hr.

Uses: To decrease intraocular pressure in chronic open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Special Concerns: Safety and effectiveness have not been determined in children. Significant absorption in geriatric clients may result in myocardial depression. Also, use with caution in angle-closure glaucoma (use with a miotic), in clients with muscle weaknesses, and in those with decreased pulmonary function.

Additional Side Effects: Ophthalmic: Stinging and burning (transient), decreased corneal sensitivity, blepharoconjunctivitis. Dermatologic: Urticaria, pruritus.

How Supplied: Ophthalmic Solution: 0.25%, 0.5%

Dosage
?Ophthalmic Solution (0.25%, 0.5%)
Adults, usual: 1-2 gtt of 0.25% solution in affected eye(s) b.i.d. or 1-2 gtt of 00.5% solution in affected eye(s) once a day (use b.i.d. in more severe or uncontrolled glaucoma).
