Classification: Antianemic, iron

Action/Kinetics: Contains about 11% elemental iron.

Uses: Particularly indicated for clients who cannot tolerate ferrous sulfate because of gastric irritation.

How Supplied: Capsule: 225 mg and 324 mg; Extended Release Capsule: 150 mg, 159 mg, 250 mg; Drops: 75 mg/0.6 mL, 25 mg/mL; Elixir: 220 mg/5 mL, 300 mg/5 mL; Oral Liquid/Solution: 300 mg/5 mL; Tablet: 200 mg, 300 mg, 324 mg, 325 mg; Enteric-Coated Tablet: 200 mg, 325 mg

Dosage
?Capsules, Tablets Prophylaxis.
Adults: 325 mg/day. Pediatric, 2 years and older: 8 mg/kg/day.
Anemia.
Adults: 325 mg q.i.d. Can be increased to 650 mg q.i.d. if needed and tolerated. Pediatric, 2 years and older: l6 mg/kg t.i.d.
?Elixir, Syrup Prophylaxis.
Adults: 300 mg/day. Pediatric, 2 years and older: 8 mg/kg/day.
Anemia.
Adults: 300 mg q.i.d. Can be increased to 600 mg q.i.d. as needed and tolerated. Pediatric, 2 years and older: 16 mg/kg t.i.d. The provider must determine dosage for children less than 2 years of age.
