Classification: Synthetic anticholinergic, antiparkinson agent

Action/Kinetics: Synthetic anticholinergic. Tremor may increase as spasticity is relieved. Slight respiratory and CV effects. Time to peak levels: 60-90 min. Peak levels: 4-5 mcg/L. t 1/2: About 18-24 hr. Tolerance may develop.

Uses: Parkinsonism, especially of the postencephalitic, arteriosclerotic, and idiopathic types. Drug-induced (e.g., phenothiazines) extrapyramidal manifestations.

Additional Contraindications: Children under the age of 3 years.

Special Concerns: Use with caution in older children.

Additional Side Effects: Muscle weakness, inability to move certain muscles.

How Supplied: Tablet: 2 mg.

?Tablets Parkinsonism.
Adults: 2 mg t.i.d.-q.i.d., to a maximum of 16 mg/day.
Drug-induced extrapyramidal effects.
Adults: 2 mg 1-3 times/day. Maximum daily dose: 16 mg.
Adults: 2 mg; repeat q 30 min until symptoms improve, but not more than four doses daily. Pediatric: 0.04 mg/kg (1.2 mg/m 2); repeat q 30 min until symptoms improve, but not more than four doses daily.
