Unknown problem - yeast infection? Quote | Reply

I've never experienced any vaginal problems before, but suddenly I developed these symptoms about 4 days ago...

-whiter, slightly clumpy discharge
-itching around vagina and anus (doesn't itch often, only when I start scratching or before bed sometimes)
-swelling and tenderness around area (these symptoms went away by the second day, could be caused by itching)
-slightly different smelling odour (however, for some reason my discharge has always had a small odour, ever since I could remember)

This is the thing that gets me the most. I have white "stuff" around my vagina and betwen my vagina and anus. It comes off when I rub it, but returns the next day. I have no idea what's wrong with me! I'm such a worry wart and I've been freaking out for days! I was taking antibiotics for a strep throat a week and a half ago (my throat had a similar white "stuff" in it) and I'm also taking Alesse bcp to regular periods (I've been on it for 2 years now). I started using the Canestin antifungal cream around my vagina and anus a few days ago. The itch is almost all gone and the white stuff is fading a bit. Will this go away on its own? HELP! *tears*

Oh and by the way...I have never had sex nor come in contact with anyone in a sexual way (aka oral sex or touching), so I think STIs are ruled out.

  • swelling, redness, irritation, burning, or itching of the vagina
  • white vaginal discharge

  • Are not a result of using antibiotics, but they are classical side effects of estrogen and progestin combination birth control pills, e.g. Alesse. This is believed to have something to do with the pH balance of the vagina being acidic.

You should notify your Doctor of these symptoms. He/She may want to give you specfic treatment for a Vaginal infection, such as a topical antibiotic cream.

These symptoms are listed as not serious and usually do not require medical treatment. However, although they are do not mean that you have a yeast infection, they can increase your susceptibility to Yeast Infections.

Therefore, you should report them to your Doctor. Over-the-counter
    treatments are available, as well.

    Hope this answers your question!

You have a yeast infection that was caused by your antibiotics. Ask your Dr. to write you a prescription for Diflucan.
