Irregular period, problems with regular period cycle Quote | Reply

Hello! I've been stressing out lately because my period is five
days late. I don't exactly have a regular cycle to begin with, but
I've never been more than 2 days late. I've researched the problem and
none of the reasons seem to apply - stress, change in diet, etc. I'm a
virgin so pregnancy is out of the question (I keep on coming back to
when my boyfriend & I fool around, but we never have actually had
intercourse and we are always wearing clothes, anyway). So what's
up? I'm 22 years old and have had my period for 10 years now so it
should be settled in a fairly regular schedule. Any ideas about what
might be going on? Thanks so much.

betty, sounds like your body might just be going through some
changes. i also experienced a similar problem as you about 6 years
ago, but the change in my period cycle was due to some major changes
in my lifestyle (from what the doctor told me) like moving, problems
with a previous boyfriend, stress from work, and also my dad having
some heart troubles. all this stuff happened within two weeks of each
other and it lead to some health issues for me as well - not eating
enough, a few drinks more than i should've had, etc. i would say
look at your lifestyle and go see your doctor to make sure nothing is
wrong on a more internal level. if you have some of the major
stresses that can be thrown at you, maybe have less of it will help
too. let me know how it goes. mroberts

you need a pap smear weather you are sexually active or not. You also
need to look at indometriosis as you are irregular this is a classic
symptom, also cervival cancer, go and see your gp asap.....belive me I
know these are all personal experinces pre sex. good luck

mroberts is right. Even stressing over when you are going to start is
stress enough to cause an imbalance and delay your period. You are
very normal.

I too am having the same problem. I am still a virgin, but my boyfriend and I do sometimes fool around. It sometimes worries sometimes, but Im very clean and we actually have never had sex before, and my period is almost 2 days, I know it doesn;t seem to be something to stress about but regardless. Im 18 years old and Im usually never late. But I have had some magor stress on me lately concerning school and basketball so maybe this is the reason. Any other thoughts on the situation?

You should seriously consider seeing your Physician for advice. It is recommended by ACOG guidelines, women be screened for cervical cancer by the age 21 or three years within first sexual intercourse, whichever comes first.

This should be done since your problem seem unrelated to stress, change in diet. There is the possibility, your problem is due to the fluctuation in hormone levels that occur every time you and your boyfriend fool around (with your clothes on), however.

This is simular to women who uses birthcontrol pills. The pill increases the levels of hormones and when the levels are high, they have no period until the get to the inactive pills in their package.

Nevertheless, concider this and talk to your doctor: Each time you and your boyfriend fool around, your body produces higher levels of hormones. Higher levels of hormones are thought to increase breast cancer risk.

Hope this answers your question!
