Sunflower seed habit. Good or bad thing? Quote | Reply

Hello,

I recently quit snuff tobacco. I have found that things such as gum, herbal chews and sunflower seeds have been extremely helpful to me after quitting tobacco. I probably don't go over the recommended serving size of sunflower seeds per day, but some days, it may be close. I guess I've become a little concerned as to whether or not I should find something else to help, since sunflower seeds are fattening. What I've read about them says that sunflower seeds contain "good" fat, however. I've also read that they contain several other beneficial vitamins and minerals. I guess I'm still just a bit confused, though, as to whether or not I'm doing myself any favors or not here. I'm sure the sunflower seed habit is no where near as harmful as the tobacco habit was, although, unfortunately, heart disease does run in my family, so I have to watch the fat and heart health as well.

I probably should have specified that the type of sunflower seeds in question here are with the shell, so you do have to work for them. Wink I've been buying David Seeds sunflower seeds, in reduced sodium, ranch and BBQ flavors. Pretty good actually! Smile

Sunflower seeds are good for you in so many ways. The fat in sunflower seeds are good fat. Your body needs fat but not the bad fat. Don't be confused by the nutrition facts saying they are high in fat. The type of fat in Sunflower seeds lowers your cholesterol intake. Don't be worried with eating too many sunflower seeds because they are healthy all around. Just watch the sodium in some brands that are salty (most are very low anyway) and don't worry about the rest! Treat you self to great healthy snack!
