Classification: Antipsychotic, piperidine-type phenothiazine

Action/Kinetics: Pronounced sedative and hypotensive effects, moderate anticholinergic effects, and a low incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms and antiemetic effects.

Uses: Schizophrenia, acute and chronic alcoholism, behavior problems in clients with mental deficiency and chronic brain syndrome, psychoneurosis.

Special Concerns: Use during pregnancy only if benefits clearly outweigh risks. Dosage has not been established in children less than 12 years of age. Geriatric, debilitated, and emaciated clients require a lower initial dose.

How Supplied: Concentrate: 25 mg/mL; Injection: 25 mg/mL; Tablet: 10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg

Dosage
•Oral Solution, Tablets Psychotic disorders.
Adults and adolescents, initial: 50 mg t.i.d.; optimum total dose: 100-400 mg/day.
Alcoholism.
Adults, initial: 25 mg b.i.d.; optimum total dose: 50-200 mg/day.
Behavior problems in mental deficiency and chronic brain syndrome.
Adults, initial: 25 mg b.i.d.; optimum total dose: 75-300 mg/day.
Psychoneurotic manifestations.
Adults, initial: 10 mg t.i.d.; optimum total dose: 30-150 mg/day.
•IM Psychotic disorders.
Adults and adolescents, initial: 25 mg (base); then, repeat the dose in 30-60 min as needed. Optimum total dose: 25-200 mg/day.
