Antiallergenic ophthalmic
Action/Kinetics:
Mast cell stabilizer that prevents the release of mast cell inflammatory mediators, including slow-reacting substances of anaphylaxis (peptidoleukotrienes), and inhibits eosinophil chemotaxis. Beneficial effect may be due to prevention of calcium influx into mast cells upon stimulation by antigens. Elimination t1/2: 8.5 hr. Excreted mainly through the urine.
Uses:
To treat ocular disorders such as vernal keratoconjunctivitis, vernal conjunctivitis, and vernal keratitis.
Contraindications:
Use in clients wearing soft contact lenses.
Special Concerns:
Use with caution during lactation. The drug is for ophthalmic use only and should not be injected. Safety and efficacy have not been determined for use in children less than 2 years of age.
Side Effects:
Ophthalmologic: Transient burning, stinging, or discomfort upon instillation. Ocular itching or pruritus, blurred vision, dry eye, tearing, discharge from eyes, hyperemia, crystalline deposits in eye, foreign body sensation, corneal erosion or ulcer, scales on lid or lash, eye pain, ocular edema or swelling, ocular warming sensation, ocular fatigue, chemosis, corneal abrasion, anterior chamber cells, keratopathy, keratitis, blepharitis, allergy, sticky sensation, epitheliopathy. CNS: Headache, dizziness, somnolence. GI: Nausea, stomach discomfort. Miscellaneous: Heat sensation, sneezing, dry nose, rash.

Dosage
•Ophthalmic Solution
Ocular disorders.
Adults and children over 2 years of age: 1-2 gtt in each affected eye q.i.d. for up to 3 months. |
