Action/Kinetics:
Less effective and less toxic than other succinimides. May color the urine pink, red, or red-brown.

1/2: 5-12 hr.
Peak effect: 1-4 hr. Excreted through the bile and urine.
Uses:
Absence seizures.
Special Concerns:
Use with caution in clients with intermittent porphyria.
Additional Side Effects:
Kidney damage, hematuria, urinary frequency.
How Supplied:
Capsule: 0.5 g
Dosage

Absence seizures.
Adults and children, initial: 0.5 g b.i.d.;
then, dose can be increased by 0.5 g/day at 1-week intervals until seizures are controlled or the daily dosage reaches 3 g. May be used with other anticonvulsants in the presence of multiple types of epilepsy. |
