Action/Kinetics:
Penicillinase-resistant and acid-stable.
Peak serum levels: IM, PO, 4-20 mcg/mL after 1 hr.

1/2: 40 min. 98% bound to plasma proteins. Chiefly excreted in urine.
Uses:
Infections due to penicillinase-producing staphylococci. To initiate therapy in any suspected staphylococcal infection. Infections due to
Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Contraindications:
Treatment of meningitis. Use in newborns.
How Supplied:
Capsule: 250 mg, 500 mg;
Powder for reconstitution: 62.5 mg/5 mL
Dosage
?Capsules, Oral Suspension
Skin and soft tissue infections, mild to moderate URTIs.
Adults and children over 40 kg: 125 mg q 6 hr;
pediatric, less than 40 kg: 12.5 mg/kg/day in four equal doses given q 6 hr.
More severe lower respiratory tract infections or disseminated infections.
Adults and children over 40 kg: 250 mg q 6 hr, up to a maximum of 4 g/day;
pediatric, less than 40 kg: 25 mg/kg/day in four equal doses given q 6 hr. |
