Length and intensity of periods with this pill

I was recently switched from on strength of Microgestin to the lower dose (1/20). I noticed almost within the first month that my periods were MUCH lighter and didn't last as long. My periods didn't bother me before. I did have heavy periods in my late teens and early twenties and went on the pill at that time. Never had a problem sinc.e I have been on the pill most of the time since my early twenties except when I had my two children.

I am now about to turn 42 and the recent change in my periods has me curious. Is it healthy to alter your period's intensity or not? It wasn't a problem before when I was on the stronger Microgestin. I only went to a new doctor who just accidently lowered the strength. My mother had breast cancer five years ago and the doctors told her that she was "hormone receptor positive". I was told that this is relatiave info when making decisions about my birth control options. I have never had any side effects to the pill. I do not have hot flashes but do wake up in the night wet with sweat sometimes.
