TriNessa Recalled?

If it is recalled, why are they still perscribing it?

July 01, 2006
Category: TriNessa (Oral)

I was reading up about the recalls on TriNessa. My doctor just recently perscribe it to me but I don't see the code on the recalled list. If it is recalled, why are doctors still perscribing it? When I went to get my perscription, my pharm. asked me if I wanted the generic kind..I had no idea what that meant to be honest. But should I get off of TriNessa and try something else? I'm 17, I can't afford to get pregnant. & Please don't judge me by my age. I'm not sleeping around, just sleeping with one person that is how it has been.

Do not take TriNessa!

I took trinessa for 2 months because I was in Fl, and where I went to have my pills transferred did not have trisprintec, so I too was recommended trinessa. Was not told about a recall or anything, just that it was just the same. First month, was fine because I was using condoms because a month prior I was on an antibiotic. I got my period a little early, and it was heavier than usual, but no concern. 2nd month went to go get another refill, still no info. about any recall. Took it, while at the end of my cycle I did not get my period. I took my pill faithfully everynight before I went to bed. I called my doctor, she told me to take a pregnancy test, and low and behold, it was positive. This pill also gave me violent stomach cramps. I am now 9 weeks pregnant with our 5th child. So, please try another brand of birth control pills.

Recall not a concern...

I asked my pharmacist about the recall and they confirmed that the recall only took place due to faulty expiration dates. For instance, instead of 2007 it said 2008...the pharmacist assured me that the recall had nothing to do with the effectiveness of the pill....I've been on Trinessa for months now and have not gotten pregnant while being sexually active with my boyfriend. Hope that helps!!

Serious Side Effects While Taking Trinessa

I had serious side effects while taking Trinessa. I am concerned doctors are prescribing this medication in place of Ortho-Tricyclein. If Ortho-T has worked for you, why mess up a good thing?

I have taken Ortho-Tricyclein for over seven years and I had no problems with it. My doctor said that our pharmacy does not carry Ortho-T anymore, but they do carry its generic, Trinessa. Regrettably, I agreed to change my pills. That turned out to be one of the worst mistakes of my life!

Extreme Problems - YOU SHOULD READ THIS:

I started Trinessa in August and the first three months were fine. Then I noticed my normally great complexion started to get bumpy around the chin. My esthetician said it was due to my hormones being "out of wack." Soon thereafter, I became tired, but I am a very busy teacher and mom so I attributed it to that. Three and a half months after starting the pill I began having periods every two weeks (I never missed a single dosage and have never had these problems during the seven years of taking Ortho-T). My normally patient and easy-going personality started to change and I became irritable and started snapping at my kids. Thanksgiving came up and then Xmas and I was too busy to reflect on what was happening to my body. After the holidays, six months after starting the pill, I had a kind of breakdown. It was a nightmare! I couldn't stop crying. I cried for two days straight over nothing. I found the only way to stop was to clean. I became obsessed with cleaning. I made another appointment with my doctor that week and she immediately took me off Trinessa. After being an emotional wreck for four days, I am somewhat back to my rational, old self; however, I still have great difficulty concentrating, remembering things, and I'm tired all the time. At least I no longer feel like I need a straight-jacket!

Speaking as a highly educated mom:

*If your birth-control pills are working fine for you, why change? I could be a disaster!

*Listen to what your body is telling you!!!

Blury Vision with trinessa

That is interesting you had blurry vision b/c I have had the same thing and jsut spent the last couple months in an opthalmologist's office, getting MRIs and spending 5 hours with a neurologist. My eye doctor thought it may have been the pill but I told her that it couldn't have been but may be it was. What kind of blurry?

Perma-spotting

I took Seasonale, aiming for 4 periods a year....I had like 4 a freakin' month. If your spotting for that long, the only way I could make it stop was to completely quit taking the pills for 3 or 4 days, get a full, heavy, 7 day period and start again. But. It always came back. You might try a different brand...

23 years old using TriNessa

I just started taking tri-nessa about one month ago. At first it was ok. I then begain to have blury vision. I thought nothing of it. I thought maybe it could be allergies or something. Then I started to have noticable mood changes. Which is a normal side effect from any birthcontrol. The things that bothered me the most was the increase in my breast size. I was on the Depo shot and my breast sized went down from a cup c to a b. Now that I am taking the tri-nessa they have gone to a size d. Causing pain in my breast and because of the size back pain. It seems like the more I take the pill something new happens.

I realize that these are all side effects listed on the prescription, but my concern continues with exterm cramps and naussea. I seriously even through up sometimes. Out of the blue I gag. Like you would when you have the flu or something. The mood swings have increase to the point were I have paranoia and I just cry for no reason at all. I am constantly at a confused state I even forget were I am going when I am driving. I have tried 4 different kinds of birth control, and this was supposed to be one that was more mild than most. I am totaly beside my self. I need to take birth control one way or the other. I am just not sure if there is one that wont have tremendous side effect, and still prevent pregnacy. Does any one know of a pill that they are happy with?

Happy with my birth control

To Jessie:

I am 19 and have been taking Ortho T- Lo for about three years now. There is no generic of this kind, and I have had no problems with it. It is also a higher dosage in hormones, I have not noticed a difference in the size of my breasts either, nor do I have problems with blurry vision, my mood swings have been normal. So ask your doctor about Ortho T-Lo, or the Nuva Ring. I hear that the Nuva Ring is also very good. I haven't heard of a birth control that doesn't have side effects.

Just a reply to the woman recommending Ortho-T-Lo

I believe whatever bc works for you, more power to you, but a warning about Ortho-t-lo, I began taking it when my oldest was 3 months old, and faithfully took it everyday for a solid year, until a pregnancy test came back with an unexpected positive, now I chocked it up to being a bit overweight at the time which can affect the effectiviness of the pill, but my cousin (by marriage not blood) who was well within the proper weight category got pregnant with virtually the same time frame.  Her first child was born five months after mine, and 12 months after being on the pill she became pregnant again, producing another child exactly 5 months younger than my second.  I talked to my gyno about this and she said she hears it often, so make sure you are extra careful if using it.

I can't take TriNessa

I just started taking TriNessa when my regular pharmacy had to transfer it closer so I could pick it up that day. Well I take my pills at night and woke up around 4am constantly throwing up, with terrible stomach cramps. Not to mention, I still haven't ended my period yet, it's been 7 days! Cry

I called the pharmacist and he said that it was the equivilent to my other birth control....which was wrong...different hormone levels and side effects. My experience was awful.

I DO NOT recommend this to anyone.

I just started taking TriNessa on Sunday, and have had EXTREME stomach cramps the past two days. I read that this is a possiable side effect and can last up to 3 packages. It's so bad I can hardly function which is not an option since I have a two-year-old. I was previously on the patch and never had a reaction like this.

22 and taking Trinessa

I have been taking trinessa for 3 years now and I have been having nausea problems just recently. I too had blurry vision and did not take it to my doctor. I know this pill has been recalled, but not because there was anything wrong with the pill, it was the wrong expiration date. Do not worry about it being recalled there aren't any problems with the pill, but I too have just recently been experiencing nausea, which is a listed side effect.

As my title says I have been taking Triness for about 3 years and have never had a problem. Until Now but it was my own mistake. Forgot to take 2 dark blue active pills on sat. and sun, so I took all 3 monday night when I discovered I had forgotten. DONT DO THAT!...I think I confused my body and started bleeding tues. Have had cramps and been kinda shaky. Usually dont get cramps with my period. Just wanted to tell everyone that I have been taking this medication for a while and have had no problems til now but it was my own mistake.
