Use of Benadryl as a sleep aid in newborns and childrenBy Paula from USA on April 07, 2006 Category: Diphenhydramine hydrochloride I have knowledge of a very bright, 4 year old who has been given Benadryl to make him sleep. According to what I have been told, this started from the first bottle when he came home as a newborn. Now that he is no longer sleeping in a crib, his mother has upped the frequency of the doses, sometimes as much as 4 times... I believe she puts a teaspoon ful into his bottles... he should not have a bottle at 4, but the fact that she is willing to trade her sons responsiveness for him staying out of her way at night, is terrifying. I have no illusions about social services either... but what medically, can happen to this adorable little child if she continues to control his sleep with Benadryl? |
