Hello, My dog, Sweet Pea, had a few red bumps on her underbelly close to her back legs. What I thought may be a bug bite. I immediatly took her to the vet. After the complete check he was unsure what may have caused this and gave her a shot (?) and Getamycin Sulfate. Well the situation got worse. It appeared to be burning her skin. A week later and three times the size, the vet said to discontinue the use of Getamycin that perhaps she was alergic to the "Carrier" of the medicin, So I did what he said. One week later she is back in his office with a test for "Melanoma Cancer" at the very best... Fearing the worse... the results came back from the lab and I am happy to say the vet concluded she has a very bad sunburn due to over exposure to Ultra Violet Rays" We will be going back to the vet in a few days to remove the sutrures and get an oinment for rapid healing. Question: What exactly are the side effects of the Gentamicin? Could this medicine have caused the burn? have you any previous exposure to a dog being infected from this medicine. The brand we used was "Batagen" Please let me know you thoughts...
Sincerly, Robyn

Mr. Burtle posible victim

I found a turtle (Mr. Burtle) with a cracked shell and was treating him with providine iodine soulution. I brought him to the vet for a follow up visit (he was fine) last friday I was given gentamicin sulfate solution to put on his crack it seemed to hurt him when applied he nstuck his head out of his shell and would have screamed if he could have. I wish I had stopped but I thought the vet knew more than me this morning he was dead! Celia
