My 21 month old on carbaxefed-is this normal?

My 21 month old went to urgent care last Sunday, and he had 2 ear infections and a cough. They put him on amoxicillin and carbaxefed dm. The doc dosed 2 ml of carbaxefed, but Walgreens said to give him 1 ml, so I have been giving him 3/4 ml. He's never had this medicine before.

Since Wednesday, he's been a totally different kid--very very hyper, doing crazy things he's never done, and been very defiant. Normally, when we tell him to stop he listens. Now, when we tell him to stop he gets worse. I know this could also be the "terrible 2's", but I just wonder if it has something to do with something in this medicine. He is sleeping much more, but I read that could be a side effect.

carbaxefed called into question

My 20 month old was recently prescribed carbaxefed dm rf, and it has definitely affected his behavior! He's become very clingy, overly active, and whines throughout the day(usually very calm), not to mention the fact that his cough has worsened (was originally prescribed said medication for an 'upper respiratory infection'). He is coughing through the night, has rather runny stool, and will eat very little, even his favorites he doesn't want (bananas). I am calling his doctor first thing in the morning, and hope to get in to see her tomorrow, because there has got to be something more efficient! And less harsh for my baby boy!!!
