How is Zocor different from Lipitor?

A doctor prescribed Lipitor & almost immediately I had carpel tunnel in both wrists. Gradually my arm muscles were weakened to the point I had difficulty lifting my purse. A new doctor prescribed Zocor 40 mg & I have no side affects after 30 days. I just read that they are related. Why are side effects so different??

Lipitor vs. Zocor

Lipitor and Zocor are both "statins" (i.e. similar molecular with similar effects on the HMG CoA Reductase enzyme). However, even minor molecular differences between two drugs in the same family can result in differences in probability of side effects. eg Drug A has a 2% chance of causing side effect X; Drug B has a 1.5% chance--if you are one of the 2% of people affected by Drug A this way, you are not necessarily among the 1.5% of people affected by Drug B this way.
