Does Formoterol make children irritable or angry?By Srikanth from Hyderabad, India. on February 21, 2006 Category: FORMOTEROL (Inhalation) (Aerosol Powder My 3 year old daughter has been diagnosed with asthma and we have been asked to give her Formoterol fumarate 6mcg + Budesonide 200mcg (in the form of dry powder for inhalation). We have been told to give one capsule two times a day for at least 6 months. It has been 3months now since we started the treatment and she is much better now. She sleeps soundly in the night. Does not have the hacking cough now. But she seems to have become more irritable and extremely moody now. We just can not predict which way her mood would swing. She is very happy one moment and suddenly something (we usually never know what) triggers her anger and she becomes cranky and cries for a long time - sometimes even for more than 1to 2 hours. It is so scary. Once she starts off nothing and nobody can bring her back to normal except sometimes myself. I have to come running from my office ( Iam a dental surgeon and so is my wife) and try to placate her. It is not easy to do this often. Is this behaviour associated with the drug or are we just imagining it? She has always been a very cheerful child. Should we stop the drug or reduce the dosage and see if her mood improves? I would be grateful for your insights and inputs. Have you come across such complaints about this drug before? Sincerely, Srikanth |
