Safety of Phentermine

I have been taking phentermine to help with weight loss and have lost 25 pounds so far. It is very helpful to me. A friend asked her pharmacist if phentermine was safe, as she had been a fen-phen user back in the 90's and was justifiably hesitant, and the pharmacist told her adamantly that phentermine is the very same thing as fen-phen and it was not worth the risk to take it. However, I have read everything I can get my hands on and cannot find information to support that. I read that phentermine was one of the drugs used in fen-phen but that while the FDA removed the other drugs from availability to consumers, they did not remove phentermine. I am fully aware there are risks with anything like this taken but my question is... IS phentermine the same thing as fen-phen and is it safe to take for short-term weight loss? I do not see how it can be so easily attainable in the US if it were not safe. Even our local Bariatric Clinic prescribes it. Thank you.

Safety of Phentermine and using the weight loss drug

I take this medicane and have lost 15 pounds so far and been on it for like 3 weeks. The way my Dr. explained this to me is that its without the phen-fin so we are safe. I even as my pharmasict prior to taking it as long as you don’t abuse it you’ll be ok. I don’t have any of the side effects that it states so I am assuming that its ok. Hope that helps!!
