INFLAMED OR SORE TONGUE AFTER TAKING METFORMIN HCL

I started taking 500mg Metformin HCL about one week ago and as a result I experienced a heaviness in my mouth and my tongue felt blistered which caused me difficulty with eating. Please tell me whether the medication caused this problem? BE ADVISED THAT IT WAS PRESCRIBED BY MY DOCTOR AS AN ALTERNATE TO THE GLUCOVANCE I WAS TAKING BEFORE FOR MY DIABETIC CONDITION.
