Asthmatics using Coreg

My doctor is considering Coreg in addition to meds I'm already on for hypertension which includes 40 mg of Lisinipril per day and 25 mg of HCTZ per day. My asthma is under control by using 250/50 Advair, Spiriva, and Flonase (for rhinitis) although colds can trigger asthma and bronchitis necessitating a course of prednisone and often a course of Avelox to end asthma flareup. I have reacted badly to Corgard and Ternormin years ago and recently when I was put on Ternormin following open heart surgery for double bypass and replacing aortic valve. I'm 77 years old. I'm also on Lipitor and 81 mg of aspirin p/day. My replacement valve was porcine, so I went off Coumadin five weeks after surgery. I am not diabetic. My lipids are very good since the surgery but by b/p, which was usually around 120's/over mid 70's prior to the surgery despite severe blockage, ranges around 140 over 80's despite use of treadmill for 10 to 15 miles per day and careful diet. I've made my concern over past reaction to beta blockers known to my doctor, but he thinks Coreg is a more ''heart-specific' type beta blocker and might not cause problems with asthma. I had trouble post-surgery due to beta blocker to control aetrial fibrillation as I have had an Afib tendency not requiring medication in the past. My heart surgery was Aug. 1st, 2005. So, is Coreg sufficiently different from beta blockers such as Ternormin and Corgard to justify trying to add it for lowering b/p along with Lisinipril and HCTZ?

Thanks for a response. Kenneth Humphrey

Additional information

This is an addenda to my question regarding Coreg- I neglected to state that I am unable to use calcium channel blocker for b/p control as this type med was used twice and both times made my heart rhythm go seriously out of control after just one pill of Isoptin, the second time Cardizem.
