Problems with change in hormone medication- from Estratest to Syntest

42 year-old post - total hysterectomy, (January 2002). Been on Estratest since surgery, but have recently changed from Estratest to Syntest (due to a change in prescription coverage amounts as dictated by my health insurance.) Everything I read tells me the chemical breakdown is the same. Why then am I experiencing depression, weight gain, and my libido turning off like a switch!? Please help! It's a 4 week wait to get to my OB/GYN, and I'm frazzled in Alexandria, VA.

Syntest to Estratest

I am so glad I found this post. I just had a full abdominal the end of September and my insurance just increased my Estratest from a $10 copay to a $40 copay. The pharmacist told me about Syntest and said it was basically the same drug. But as I read the side effects, it seems to have more than the Estratest. The one reason I liked the Estratest was the no weight gain. I've had problems with acne, but that's it. Have you had any problems with acne or did it come and go? It didn't start with me until the 2nd month of taking the Estratest. I'm wondering if it will phase out. I don't know whether to go to the dermotologist first or the GYN first.

Also, I was told by several people that Estratest was virtually the only hormone out there without the side effect of weight gain? Is there any truth to this? I understand that every person is different and may not experience all of the side effects, but if weight gain is a side effect, I'll experience it!

Any thoughts on all of the above are appreciated.
